The Ministry of Defence fulfils Defence Forces orders in various fields – the acquisition of military equipment, infrastructure construction and repair, organisation of property management, coordination of environmental activities, Defence Forces telecommunications network operation and the development of cooperation with NATO and the European Union.
The Ministry of Defence received over 4000 buildings from the Russian military, of which 50% have been transferred, given away or written off. One of the Ministry of Defence’s largest fields of operation is military construction sites.
It is important to the Ministry of Defence that each soldier and conscript has access to decent barracks and training buildings conforming to all standards, a decent medical centre, soldier’s home, sports hall and also training areas meeting training requirements. For all of this, one soldier requires objects with 33 different designations. And no training centre is complete if something as important as a training area is missing for a soldier.
A separate field of activity is the execution of NATO financed investments. It is important to expand upon the shaping of Estonia's positions on jointly financed objects with NATO. The first major object in Estonia is the reconstruction of Ämari Air base.
